My son and I went cross country skiing deep into the forest and I turned to see our tracks in the late afternoon light. When I got back to the studio I painted this while the memory was still fresh like the snow.

This is a private oil study based upon a painting by Thomas Hill,(1829 - 1908) one of my favorite artists. He captured Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe before the building of route 89 cut a horizontal scar across the mountains.
