Photography was my minor at the Art Institute Of Boston. Early in my career, I kept up with my photography with a fully equipped darkroom. My love of painting took center stage and photography became secondary in my creative endeavors. Starting in about 2010, I began experimenting with digital photography and the media has become an important part of my creative output.
I have won dozens of photography awards and I think that it is because I look through the lens with the eyes of a painter.

A collection of my favorite photographs taken in Nevada's Valley Of Fire
State Park. Strange and beautiful sandstone formations are found
throughout the desert park where temperatures often soar above 120
degrees. Ancient indigenous peoples hunted bighorn sheep and made their
temporary homes here leaving traces behind in the form of tightly woven
baskets, arrowheads and petroglyphs (picture and symbol writing) that
they etched into the colorful sandstone cliffs. The natural desert beauty
of the Valley Of Fire is otherworldly!
This Gallery contains images of paintings created from original
photographs of the sea when I lived right on the open Atlantic Ocean on
Eastern Point Gloucester Massachusetts USA. The photographs have been
post processed and digitally manipulated to resemble fine oil paintings
on linen canvas. The painterly effect is especially noticeable in the
largest sizes of each painting.
A collection of my seascape photography. Photographs were captured on
my explorations along the Mendicino Coast. A few selected images have
been digitally remastered to look like fine oil paintings of the
Northern Shores of California .The oil painting effect is especially
noticeable in the larger sizes. Not all images have this post
processing.
Photographs of things that have been abandoned, forgotten, or trashed.
It's fascinating to see things that were once functional and useful to
their owners slowly decaying, rusting and deteriorating. There is a
story behind each photograph and it's largely up to the viewer to
imagine the answers to unasked questions.
This Gallery contains images of paintings created from original
photographs I have taken over the decades. The photographs have been
post processed and digitally manipulated to resemble fine oil paintings
on linen canvas or watercolors on watercolor paper. The painterly effect
is especially noticeable in the largest sizes of each painting.
I often encounter various animals, critters and birds on my hikes and
travels. Some encounters, large and small, were worthy of capturing
with my camera. Here is a selection of my personal favorites.
Photographs of some of my favorite stretches of rivers, creeks and
brooks. Also featured are some white water kayaking photographs and
wild rivers not far from my studio in Northern California.
This selected collection of photographs shows the incredible beauty and
vastness of Crater Lake in the State of Oregon, USA. Crater Lake is a
caldera lake in the western United States, located in south-central
Oregon. Because of the purity of it's waters and it's high altitude, the
Lake reflects an incredible blue color from the sky.
It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and is famous for
its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly
2,148-foot deep caldera that was formed around 7,700 years ago by the
collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama. There are no rivers flowing into
or out of the lake; the evaporation is compensated for by rain and
snowfall at a rate such that the total amount of water is replaced every
250 years. With a depth of 1,949 feet the lake is the deepest in the
United States. In the world, it ranks tenth for maximum depth, and third
for average depth.
Bald Rock Dome Photography Collection Bald Rock Dome is a granite batholith located in Butte County in the
Plumas National Forest in Northern California. At about 3600 feet in
elevation, the granite dome peak overlooks the Sierra Nevada foothills,
the Sacramento Valley and coastal mountain ranges. It is a remarkable
place with bizzare rock formations and huge glacial erratics that make
for some great scenic photographs.
Mount Lassen Photography Collection A collection of my favorite photographs taken on my hikes and travels in
Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Mount Lassen (10,462 ft above sea level) is the southernmost active
volcano in the Cascade Range. It is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc
which is an arc that stretches from northern California to southwestern
British Columbia. Located in the Shasta Cascade region of Northern
California, it is the largest lava dome on Earth.
Black & White Photography Collection A collection of some of my favorite Black and White Photographs. Some
were taken in Black & White, others I determined that they looked
best in B&W and de-saturated the images and made further adjustments.
I have collected seashells from around the world since 1972 and have
decided to artfully photograph some selected specimens from my
collection of over 500 different species. Canvas and paper prints are
available of these photographs in many sizes. You may also order
customizable 5 x 7 inch greeting cards. Thanks for having a look!
A selection of my favorite images of flowers and blossoms both wild and
cultivated. In addition to prints, please see the products offered with
these stunning images!
A collection of some of my photographs taken on my hikes and travels
throughout the deserts of Nevada. Some of my favorite places to hike in
are Red Rocks, Calico Basin, Red Springs and the Valley Of Fire.
A collection of some of my favorite photographs taken on my travels and hikes.
I offer my photographs as museum quality prints on canvas, paper acrylic
or metal prints in a number of sizes. Customizable 5 x 7 inch greeting
cards are available as well.
A collection of digitally remastered photographs that look like oil
paintings. Photographs were captured on my explorations in the Sierra
Nevada Mountains. The oil painting effect is especially noticeable in
the larger sizes.
This gallery is comprised of my experiments, an unusual marriage of traditional painting and technology.
Some images are my original paintings that have been digitally
manipulated, such as in my "Reflection" series, where the foreground
water and reflections were added to the painting using many tools in
Photoshop and other image editing programs.
Other images show some of my ordinary watercolor and gouache paintings
that were photographed under black light for a total change in
appearance. I have spent years experimenting with how different wave
lengths of light affect the appearance of my watercolors and what
adjustments I would have to make so they would look right under
fluorescent, incandescent and natural daylight. The most striking
change in my watercolors occurs when they are illuminated solely with
black light (UV). I thought that some of these would make very
interesting fine art prints. NOTE: No Phosphors were used in these
images as in my GLOW IN THE DARK MURALS. The ordinary watercolors are
florescent under Black Light.
Museum Quality Prints are available in a variety of sizes on your
choice of papers, stretched canvas, acrylic and polished metal.
Not far from my studio in Northern California, in the western foothills
of the Sierra Nevada, is a remote park at an elevation of 3570 feet in
the tall pines. As you walk through the park there are many bronze
sculptures of children playing at various activities. Their expressions
of joy remind me of my own childhood memories. I am intrigued by the
frozen expressions on their charming faces, the play of dappled light on
them and the varied patinas of the bronze as it weathers in the outdoor
elements. I hope you enjoy this series.
A collection of my photographs of edibles, veggies, fruits and other
produce. Many of these images are perfect for dining areas, restaurant
use or supermarket produce advertising. Contact me for licensing.
